She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law and serves as an editor of the section’s online magazine. Peterson began as a summer associate with McGuireWoods in 2013, and she returned full time in 2016 following clerkships with Judge Edward E. Carnes of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge Glen E. Conrad of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she received the Charles T. Rodriguez’s last day at McGuireWoods was March 31. In her new role, Rodriguez presides over criminal and civil cases. On the criminal side, she handles matters such as initial appearances, arraignments, plea and competency hearings, inquiries of counsel and motions to suppress. On the civil side, her matters include discovery disputes, mediations, settlement conferences, referred motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment. Rodriguez joined McGuireWoods in 2011. She focused on government investigations and complex civil litigation and has defended clients in numerous government enforcement actions by the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission, among others. Before joining McGuireWoods, Rodriguez served as a policy adviser at DHS and advised on immigration, including Form I-9 and E-Verify compliance, border searches, cybersecurity and electronic surveillance. She also served as a staffer in the White House Counsel’s Office handling management of judicial nominations and assisting with responses to congressional investigations. Among her honors, she was selected for inclusion in Legal 500 United States in the fintech category. His last day at McGuireWoods was Dec. 30, 2022. Satterwhite started his McGuireWoods career as a summer associate in 1990 and joined the firm as an associate the following year. He maintained a national practice protecting and pursuing clients’ interests in high-stakes intellectual property, employee mobility and employment litigation, largely focused on executive- level disputes. “I’ve spent my entire legal career at McGuireWoods, and everything I learned about being a lawyer I owe to my amazing friends and colleagues at the firm,” Satterwhite says. “Leaving McGuireWoods was a difficult decision, but I’m happy that I will be able to continue to work with the firm as a client. Her last day at McGuireWoods was March 29. U.S. district judges appoint magistrate judges through a merit-based process. In her new role, Speight presides over criminal and civil cases. On the criminal side, she presides over misdemeanor cases and conducts preliminary proceedings in felony cases, such as initial appearances, preliminary hearings, detention hearings, arraignments and pleas. On the civil side, Speight presides over cases with the litigants’ consent and handles other matters on referral, including settlement conferences, discovery disputes and dispositive motions. During her 11 years at McGuireWoods, Speight represented employers in litigation involving wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, the Family Medical Leave Act and Equal Pay Act, trade secret claims, and wage and hour class, collective and representative actions. She counseled unionized employers, defending unfair labor practice charges and arbitrations. And she defended employers in ERISA litigation, including claims arising under multi-employer plans and claims for pension benefits, severance benefits, and disability and health benefits. Speight was selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch, Litigation - Labor and Employment in 2021 and 2022. Before joining McGuireWoods, she served as a law clerk from 2010 to 2012 for then- U.S. Magistrate Judge M. Hannah Lauck of the Eastern District of Virginia, who now is a U.S. district judge. She was 58. According to her a U.S. Navy pilot, was stationed. She and her family moved several times before settling in Burke, Virginia. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. After law school, she joined what was then the Tysons Corner office of McGuire Woods Battle & Boothe, launching a successful career in commercial real estate law. Over the years, she advised clients as a lawyer in private law firms and served as an in-house counsel. “Marianne’s skills and abilities were a foundational part of the growth of our Northern Virginia real estate practice in the 1990s,” says McGuireWoods Tysons office managing partner and commercial real estate and her commitment to teamwork and collaboration are part of a legacy that still guides the Tysons office.” As noted in football, cycling and skiing. She also was known for her devotion to causes, friends and family, and for mentoring work colleagues. “She was loved, known and respected by many, despite the fact that she left the firm almost 25 years ago,” says McGuireWoods alum Forrest Reid. McGuireWoods alum Jack Lavoie, now head of the national real estate practice at Cooley LLP and partner-in-charge of its Reston office, adds: “Marianne was the glue, the conscience and the ‘do-er’ who kept so many people in touch with each other from her undergraduate days at Virginia Tech to the University of Virginia Law School, as well as lifelong friends and colleagues from McGuireWoods … and other connections.” Bundren is survived by her husband of 35 years and three sons.
